I'm a doctoral student in the learning sciences and technologies program at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, I’m part of Yasmin Kafai’s research group and collaborate closely with Danaé Metaxa. My work brings together perspectives from child-computer interaction and the learning sciences to study how young people develop and integrate functional and critical understandings about ai/ml and computing, and how youth can be involved in the design and evaluation of ai/ml systems.

.

Current projects include addressing the following questions:

  • How can we engage youth in algorithm auditing activities to externally evaluate ai/ml systems?

  • What role do failure and edge cases play in how youth make sense of how machine learning applications work?

  • What are youth's critical and functional everyday conceptions of LLM-powered systems?

  • How do youth’s understandings of LLM-powered systems change when engaging in model design and evaluation activities?

Current collaborators include: Yasmin Kafai, Danaé Metaxa, Deborah Fields, Lauren Vogelstein, Ro Encarnación, and Daniel Noh.
